A little bit of rain or early morning grogginess did not stop the Rotary Club of Carpentersville-Morning from conducting a spring clean up on our adopted Highway in Carpentersville. Bright and early (8 am… on a Saturday Morning!) we gathered for breakfast ensuring we would have the energy to walk up and down the street to pick up debris that had been collecting since our last clean up only a few months back. Hubcaps, VHS tapes, a front end of a Acura, fast food wrappers, winter hats, a dresser drawer and of course cigarette butts are just some of the many items that filled our bright orange bags.

It is actually pretty amazing the amount of garbage that is actually collected. When we gathered and were handed our safety vests and nifty grabbers we were also given the orange garbage bags that almost seemed to large for the task at hand. When driving by, it did not seem like there was much to pick up! But it wasn’t long before the bags were busting out the bottom and in need of being doubled up because all of the garbage that had been collected. As we got to the end of the route the once empty bags were full, heavy, wet and stinky ready to be taken away no sooner then we wanted to get rid of them. End result, a clean highway in Carpentersville!Image

Thanks to our volunteers and all the club members who came out to work for a few hours on a Saturday morning that had sleeping in written all over it!
