Wednesday March 6th Wayne & Fred from the Build a Dream Organization spoke to our club and discussed how they found themselves spending their retirement helping underprivileged families & children in a rural town in Mexico. What started out with helping a single local Hispanic family facing deportation turned into helping an entire Mexican community and changing the lives of many of their residents in the process.

Many Hispanic families (and families from other countries) come to the US for an opportunity to provide a better life for their loved ones and develop skills that their hometown communities and countries don't have the ability to provide. When faced with deportation these families are forced back into the poor communities where most of the time there is little to go back to. Realizing this and seeing a local family facing the issue Linda Baumert (founder of the Build a Dream Organization) did what she could to raise money and get volunteers to construct a livable house for this family to go back to. It was not long after that until they realized the great need of the children of that community who lacked the ability to receive an education because of the lack of resources.

Soon Linda had recruited Wayne and Fred to help with what the Build a Dream Organization had started to grow into. Within the few years of its existence it has helped the community of El Vaquero, Mexico in more ways than one. For simple things like bringing down shoes every time they go down to sponsoring students and the education system to turning the communities school into the top college prep school in Mexico year after year. The organization continues to support the El Vaquero community and its youth with the help and support from all their volunteers and contributors.
